The Alchemist details the journey of a young Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago. Santiago, believing a recurring dream to be prophetic, decides to travel to the pyramids of Egypt to find treasure. On the way, he encounters love, danger, opportunity and disaster. One of the significant characters that he meets is an old king named Melchizedek who tells him that "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." This is the core philosophy and motif of the book.

Captain Obviousen beste ha irakorri ostian, eibar.org/blogak/orakulua/jente-sinpliandako-metafisika-merkia ba zera... etxataan bere obriakin segitzeko gogo haundirik geratu. Baiña etxian egindako n-garren liburu purgia dala eta, hau bookcrossingerako bideratuta zoiala eta... "Ea ba, hain liburu famosuak ze itxura dakan" pentsau, eta... irakurtaldi bittan jan. Gustau jatak! Formula intelijentia jaukak: rollo metafisiko pixkat (baiña asko ez), justu irakorliak "dana ulertzen ez dabela" sentiduta misterio sentsaziño horrekin lagatzeko... majia pixkatxo bat, kointzidentziak deus ex machina lotzeko... basamortua eta bere biztanlien izaerian toke exotikua... maisuki nahastatuta, errez irakortzen dan ekoizpen sasisakona emonda. 14 urteko mutikuari emoteko modukua (onerako diñot).

There's a lot of inspirational stuff about following our dreams and never giving up.

And a lot of stuff about learning what true happiness is.

But then it's a bit too pseudo-religious for my liking.

And then in the final 30ish pages all at once several things happened that I thought ruined the whole book: - the alchemist really does turn lead into gold, after it seeming for many pages that it was all just a metaphor - the boy really does talk to God and turn himself into the wind, after (again) seeming like it would all stay grounded in reality and it would only happen figuratively - he found actual treasure at the end! I thought the whole point was that treasure is in us already, its in the connection to the universe and in fining love and purpose.... Coelho make it seem like that's the lesson but then right at the end it turns out, no, the treasure is gold. Not love.
